Integrating Faith & Work in Kenya

James Wainaina of iServe Africa attended the Faith & Work Summer Ministry Intensive in 2019. This year, iServe Africa has a team of 41 volunteers serving with six in Uganda and 35 in Kenya, including Elizabeth Mutheu. Here Elizabeth shares how faith and work training has impacted her ministry.

I’m originally from Kenya, and I'm so happy to be serving with the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Log-Logo. To be an apprentice in ministry is very exciting. Learning to depend on God for everything has not been easy, but it has been worth it. Through the ministry training courses I have been able to appreciate what the gospel is, what it is not, and its power. I have had to unlearn a lot of wrong theologies too, such as the prosperity gospel, among others.

Through my apprenticeship, I have shared the Word of God with teens, taught pupils for a whole year in the church’s Achievers Academy, trained the community on nutrition and hygiene, and provided nutrition screening for children. I attended a Faith & Work program during our quarterly trainings, and since then I’m inspired to do ministry in the corporate world so that I can bridge the Sunday–Monday gap and reach out to those in the market place with the gospel.”

Please join us in praying for the work of iServe Africa as they plan in 2020 to run five faith and work trainings and a conference from April 30–May 2, 2020.
